October 22, 2008

Hi! It’s been a really terrific week.  The cheerleaders have done a great job creating school spirit for homecoming this weekend.

We’ve been working hard too.  The pumpkin carving was not easy, but the results are really amazing! I’m so proud of the work the students did and they have a really great project to show for it click on “The pumpkin patch” page on the left to see the fantastic results of the kids work.

We also painted banners for the homecoming game.

Desktop Publishing is working on a project for homecoming also.  We are making tri-fold boards with interesting facts about the past 50 years to display at the homecoming reception after the game on Saturday.

I hope everyone comes to Homecoming on Saturday. It will be an exciting game and the kids are really looking forward to the other activities.  Remember get your white t-shirt and support WHITE-OUT!

October 15, 2008

Wow! It’s been a busy few weeks.  We have been moving quite steadily from project to new projects.

Art 1: has completed practicing drawing simple shapes and progressed to drawing real individual objects.  We have been looking at breaking down objects to the shapes they are based on.  We also spent a week drawing white objects, looking at the way light falls on them creating shadows and shading.

Art 2 & up: Have completed their charcoal portraits.  We matted them and hung them in the hall for our own gallery display. I’m really proud of how they turned out and was glad to see so many who said this is gonna be really hard and I can’t do this enjoy the project and do a really great job. You can see a few of the pictures at the student featured section of the SM website (stmaryhs.org) or on a separate page here.

Desktop Pub.:  We have finished with the tool box used in Indesign and completed several different projects including an “It’s all about Me” collage and posters for the SM Cancer Walk.

We have begun doing some pumpkin carving for Halloween.  We are using artificial pumpkins, they look like the real thing when lit up,but they don’t rot!!! Students are working in pairs or alone and I expect to have 50- 60 pumpkins to display next week.  Any student participating in the Lindsey Myer Pumpkin Run to support Cystic Fibrosis (go to www.lmmf.org to find out more) got their own pumpkin. I will send them home before Halloween so they can be displayed at home.  We will also be painting Halloween Ornaments to make magnets, something everyone gets to bring home. Look for photos coming soon.
