Art 1
Students will create an Art Criticism Cube. They will choose an artist and work of art. They will then recreate the art work onto one side of a six sided cube. The other five sides will then be filled with: 1) Description-What do you see? Give only the facts. Include size, medium, and the main Elements of art used. 2) Analysis- How is the artwork organized? List some of the ways the artist used the Principles of art. Give examples. 3) Judgement- This is a supported opinion. What do you think of the work? Judge the art based on one or more of the theories: imitationalism, realism, formalism or emotions. Again, give examples from the artwork. 4) Interpretation What is happening? Why? What is the artist trying to say? Be creative but base your interpretation on your analysis and description. Use your last side detail to support your theories. 5) An enlarged detail of the art work. Explain in your analysis, judgment or interpretation why this detail is significant. On the next post you will find the Elements & Principles of Art and their definitions, if you need to refer to them.
